In collaboration with Tommy's and Sands we have reviewed how we give fetal movement information.

The message of understanding movement and reporting concerns immediately is staying the same but the wording has changed to offer more clarity. For example "change in movement" is being changed to "moving less or movements are weaker".

Feedback in the recent Sands report found that women and birthing people found the phrasing of "change in movement" confusing. With research now showing multiple episodes of increased movement  leads to a reduced risk of stillbirth, it was felt focusing on "moving less" and "movements are weaker" would be clearer.

These changes mean we need to update our leaflets and posters but we need your help to do it!

Our leaflets, posters, and movement‑monitoring tools are used by midwives, hospitals, and community groups across the country. They empower women to trust their instincts, recognise these changes in their baby’s movements, and seek help quickly.
